Hollister sits in San Benito County, which is its own Medicare market and a smaller one than the Bay Area counties to the north. We work out of Morgan Hill, up Highway 25, which is close enough that we are not guessing about the area.
A smaller county means a shorter list
Medicare Advantage plans are approved county by county, and the rural counties in this region carry fewer of them than Santa Clara County does. That is not a disadvantage so much as a different problem: with fewer plans, the gap between the right one and the wrong one is wider, and there is less room to correct course later. We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options.
Your counseling office is shared with Santa Cruz
HICAP is delivered county by county, and San Benito shares its provider with Santa Cruz County. Senior Network Services covers both, with a dedicated San Benito line at 831-637-0630. Free, unbiased, and not selling anything.
What actually decides your plan
- Which doctors and clinics you want to keep, including any you drive north to see
- Your prescriptions, since the drug formulary varies plan to plan
- Whether you need coverage that travels with you
The California birthday rule reaches Hollister too
It is a statewide right. If you already carry a Medigap policy, the mechanic is the same here as in San Jose, and it is explained on our California birthday rule page.
