Lee's Summit already has agencies with a physical presence here specifically to serve Medicare shoppers. That's worth taking seriously as a signal, not a warning sign: real demand drew real offices. Being local and being independent aren't the same thing, though. A local office can still be captive to a single carrier. What actually matters is whether the agent in front of you can compare plans across multiple companies, not just where their office sits.
Most of Lee's Summit, with one edge worth knowing
Nearly all of Lee's Summit sits in Jackson County, one of the counties Kansas City, Missouri also spans, which means the same Missouri SHIP counseling program and the same state-level Supplement rules apply. A slice of the city's southern edge crosses into Cass County, and county lines occasionally shift which specific Medicare Advantage plans are on offer. If your address falls near that line, tell us your exact address and we'll confirm your county before we compare a single plan. We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options.
Independent versus a satellite office
A satellite office run by a captive agency still only sells that agency's own book of business, dressed up as local service. MC Insurance Services is independent and works across carriers, which means the plans we bring you aren't filtered down to whichever company happens to employ the person sitting across from you. We'll say it plainly if your current plan, from any company, is already the right fit. That answer costs us nothing to give and it's the one a captive office can't.
- Ask any agent, us included, whether they can sell plans from more than one carrier
- Ask what happens if the best plan for you isn't one they carry
- Ask whether a review costs you anything either way, before or after enrollment
It's the network, not the name on the card
Whichever agency you talk to in Lee's Summit, you'll likely hear a familiar handful of national carrier names, and that's not the detail that should decide anything. A single carrier can sell several different plans across Jackson and Cass counties, each with its own network of doctors and hospitals, so the name on the card tells you nothing about whether your specific doctor is actually in it. What decides that is the plan's own network agreement for this year, which is why we check your provider list against the plan itself before recommending it, not against the carrier's reputation. For reference, the same carriers we work with in Jackson and Cass counties are the ones we're appointed with everywhere else we serve, spelled out in full on our carriers page.
Meeting without an office visit
We don't have a Lee's Summit storefront, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. What we do instead is a phone or video review that covers the same ground an in-person meeting would: your current doctors, your prescriptions, and a side-by-side look at Medicare Advantage against Medicare Supplement if that comparison matters for you. For Part D specifically, we check your actual medication list against this year's formularies, not last year's.
For a free, state-run second opinion alongside ours, Lee's Summit residents can also reach Missouri SHIP at 1-800-390-3330. Use it alongside ours, not instead of it. A counselor there has no stake in which plan you pick, and neither do we, since our answer costs you nothing whether you enroll through us or not.
